Will the new SDK for SR2/3/4 be a Gui type

Hi,

I am new here and new to SR modding, but I have decent exp modding other Games like Fallout 3/NV and also using the Unreal UDK editor...

And I was wondering if the upcoming SDK editor will be a graphical editor in the Vain of UDK or The GECK editor in the Fallout games(and Sky rim).. As for those I have made my own towns with npc.

And I would love to be able to grab whole buildings and or walls(with my mouse) to create my own locations in the games as you can do in UDK and other type editors.

I know this question might be a little early as I know your still working on the SDK.
Here some example pics for what I am referring to.

oh, and thanks for some of the best games I have every played in my 41 years alive.

I am currently a Game Design Student at UAT. You can find my mods at http://w11.zetaboards.com/TimClough/pages/gamemods/

Likely expect something akin to what we have. The development on the 3d end seems to be 3d Studio Max, with an export crunching tool that builds extra data accordingly. That needs a lot of stuff we don't have (notably their entire shared build environment) so we'll probably get formats and have to make our own tools, so expect export plugins first, eventually a gui that can load and edit. The rest though is in stuff like lua and xtbls (xtml-like), which is hardly going to be useful with some gui, except to have an integrated system. Mostly it'll be the tools we have... text editor of choice, and command line (and simple gui) apps to unpack-pack in files.

Remember, the Creation Kit/GECK is the result of Bethesda purposely redesigning their entire design system after Daggerfall to that, although the releases end-users get isn't nescessarily as featured (as Skyrim attests). Volition is giving us the SDK in their own free time, with fans filling in the gaps from the knowledge given. Volition doesn't use something like that so there isn't one to give, but there's no reason enterprising people can't make something similar, eventually, once we have all the format data.

Sorry I know this is off topic, but are you remaking san andreas in UDK? thats LS police station right?

hmm,

Perhaps I should rephrase my question...
Perhaps a gui editor like UDK or the Geck is our final goal.(long way off I see).but I am interested in learning what Violation use themselves as I am a Game Design student and find it hard to believe that they would make a game with out a Mouse driving click on an object to move a object kind of interface..And chance we could at lest see some screen caps of what they use on there own computers they use to make there games..(some basic images or short video would be good no need to show any major company secrets).

We do have an editor that is very much like UDK. Very much unlike UDK it is tightly coupled to our internal systems and uses them to help it hand out unique object handles and things like that. This is what makes it hard to release our editor. There are screenshots and a couple videos about the making of SR3 which show it. Maybe someone can find and link them.

Ok, I was partly off. I'd gotten the impression it was kinda more ad-hoc.. but the sad part is it DOES use the whole internal systems as we'd figured. Alas.
Plus it might have some non-redistributable code I imagine. That alone would likely prevent any opening of sources.. I've heard RAD Labs gets touchy about ANY of their sdk code being released. Makes sense, that is their entire business model (and a successful one considering how spread their middleware is)

But, well, I don't think we'll see anything like their editor suite for a LONG time, since we have to parse the game from what's there and work out the parts instead of the reverse.

I wanna see some videos/shots of said making though, even if it's no good to us it's always neat to see.

You can see what's probably the world editor at 1:23 in this video. Though I am curious to see some clearer screenshots. It looks like Microsoft Office (with the Ribbon) except I think it has a Volition logo instead of the Office logo.
I know it won't be any time soon, but I sure hope it can be released at some point!
