Dev Diary #1 debug features

But on topic, there is one thing to be said about a developer console. No matter what, it'd only be on the PC version.. so even if you negate the cheats DLC it only is negated for the people who get the mod, meaning your entire demographic of consoles and people who don't use mods remains active :p
Or just make the debug console require the cheat DLC. ;)

Great idea, and a good way to sell it.. but on the other hand I'm not sure they can have actual engine exe builds defined by DLC in Steam. I mean, content packs yes, but the engine seems to operate more on a "do we have access to this content" not a "is this content here" system, thanks to co-op (a perfectly valid tactic, you don't want to be unable to play with a buddy just because they have a DLC you don't or vice versa). I'm not familiar in how Steam manages versions of the executables and keeping them separate.. maybe if it's considered an 'expansion pack'..

Ehhhh........I'd feel dirty. The Executive Privilege pack is like the Hoe diversion of DLC. However they are two different things. A debug console maybe second nature to us, but you kinda need to know what your doing. I think both have their own place in the world. The Cheat DLC is "Debug Console for Dummies" kinda.

This wouldn't be hard to gate via DLC if that's what you guys want. :p

It'd probably help get it released faster if it was going to be a revenue stream :p
However, it'd definitely cause alot of grief from the fans.

I guess I can see both sides of the line here. Us loyal fans who know how much time and effort goes into developing special things like this wouldn't really mind. Those who think games are pulled from the ether of the air might complain, but meh. You can't please everyone.

Are we seriously trying to convince Volition to charge us for Mod tools? Fact of the matter is modding makes money, lots of it. They don't need a DLC gate, or pay to play mod tools. Bethesda, and Valve aren't as big as they are because they make the best games. They're big because they make good games and support mod authors to generate value. Mod authors are literally free labor. They make content which increase the value of a game, and ask nothing in return but the tools to do so. End of story. We agree to work for free and they provide some basic tools. Win win.

Valid point, I guess. But I wonder if the 'bean counters' see it the same way? They should, but it doesn't mean they do. Besides, I think we were refering to a ganked debug console, it really wouldn't offer full debug, based on what V has said, since it ties into their tools. So really it would be "Advanced Cheat Console v2.0".

Knobby's the man. He'll take those beady eyed bean counters by the collar of their tweed jackets, and say, "Listen to me you twits! This gonna happen! There is no spread sheet for magic, ass hats! You calculate money? Well, I calculate dreams of a generation!" or something to that effect. I don't know the specifics, you can't predict a tornado of fury, but Knobby can do this! With limited fatalities!
