I don't care for many of the costume DLC's this go around. There is a side of this game that makes me feel it was designed for micro transactions like costume DLC's. Don't get me wrong, the customization aspect of this game is great, I love it, but I feel the community could make better costumes with the SDK and it feels like more of the same as SR3 with similar costume themes. I'm looking forward to the SDK, because the community will be able to expand on the game in ways Volition hasn't. At this point, I think it would be better for Volition to charge like $10 for the SDK then let us take over the content creation and post it at will for no charge.

Enter the Dominatrix had some funny parts, but was generally a hollow DLC where you go kill some things then the Dominatrix with some funny cutscenes. I've seen modding communities create missions of similar scope.

I guess the common thought process here is I think the community is more inspired to create quality content than Volition. I don't mean that as an insult to them, I don't regret my SR4 purchase, I just think the community could create better content if given the opportunity, even missions. Clan Quest Mod for Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines can show you that even getting quality voice acting doesn't have to be a chore and that epic expansion was done without a SDK. I'm just imagining the possibilities for this game if Volition stepped up work on the SDK, even if they monetized it.

I'm mostly talking of SRIV in this, but SRTT a bit by extension since similar prices/quantity of content in its DLC. I never had the chance to play SR1 or SR2's DLC. (Obligatory PORT+RE-PORT 2 PC PLZ GUIZ :) lol)

  1. I like the DLC, but the item packs in particular feel like too little for too much. The quality of weapons, clothing, and vehicles? I think Volition does a great job on that. Really hilarious and/or awesome stuff. But unfortunately, vehicles fall flat in SRIV for one. I mean, they're done well once again, but driving once you have super powers is few and far between. While I do like new vehicles, I just want to mention they're not as much of a selling point as in SRTT sadly.

And the pricing of 2.99 adds up. For the current packs on Steam, it's 27$. For that, there are a many full titles I can purchase on Steam right now, at their full price even. Even SRTT: Full Package for 3 extra bucks (or one future item pack DLC) can be mine. Granted, the price has went down on SRTT, but obviously you want to sell your newest DLC too. One good solution is for players to buy the DLC they really want and wait for a sale for the others, which is fine, but for me personally, I know I intend to own them all eventually. A lower price point at least would make it much more likely I'd buy it upon release though.

  2. Mission packs aren't as bad to me. I think the pricing is alright-ish. They are typically short, but I really like the storylines and dialogues. Especially EtD's way of telling the story, awesome approach! But they are short, and often leave me wanting more, and EtD in particular was a bit Point A to Point B. Thing is, the major one up outside the story, is replayability. They may be short, but it adds a lot of value to the mission packs since we can replay them. Could a price cut help here too? Of course, I'd welcome that, but I really think the item packs would benefit most.

  3. Expansion packs? Oh, absolutely yes. It would take much longer, which is an unfortunate side effect, but I think it'd be worth it. Add a new sandbox to play in, that'd be awesome. I love the mission-only environments but if we instead got areas we could return to that would then have peds, vehicles, so on, that'd be amazing for replayability. Also, characters I really think I'd like often feel truncated in mission packs, but in an expansion, a few characters which are fleshed out is better than a bunch of characters in a couple short mission packs.

And please continue providing DLC to everyone. Granted, PC gets Valve items, I almost wish we didn't actually, but the thing is, DLC and the game on PC will probably be available a LOT longer on Steam. SR1 is already fucked on 360 for DLC, that's sickening to the preservationist and completionist I am. I don't know the details of why that is so, but I assume it costs more to keep DLC up on consoles than PC maybe. I could be totally wrong, but I know PC gets more sales over time too so that may play a part. Thanks for no "pre-order now or NEVER get it HAHAH!" or "only if you buy from here" bullshit. I know the Polarizer is supposed to be Gamestop only, but Brady Games seemed unlikely and yet we have it. Hoping the same for the Polarizer later on at least. But even so, one is better than 4 or 5 every game that some devs/pubs do and I still appreciate it.

Oh, yes. Preorder- and retailer-exclusive bonuses will get a publisher on my shit list. However, usually they're not actually exclusive, but rather are sold later as DLC. Then they become just a regular shitty practice instead of a shit-list one.

My understanding is that most of that is demanded by the retailers in the same way that they demand that digital release and pricing is equivalent to the store release date and price - there is more or less an implicit threat at play that if the retailer isn't given its own piece of exclusive DLC and isn't given the same release date and price as the more flexible internet distribution that that publishers games will receive less favourable treatment from them in the future in terms of promos and placement.

Basically if it does ever go away it's going to stick around for at least the next one (probably two even) console generations until the majority of purchases are made on the internet (I'd imagine by that time all the distribution would be digital).

I like the dlc released for this game; granted I'm tighter than a banker with my money so I pick and choose which ones I want and may get the others later if money permits. I really enjoyed Enter The Dominatrix for what it was: it gave me new weapons, vehicles, outfits, and homies and it wasn't short on laughs either. Plus it spawned a mod where people can play as a glitched velociraptor! THAT IS AWESOME!!! Not to mention the insight it gave on how chaotic the production of that DLC and this game was really interesting.

Eventually, I'd love to see an expansion to the main game. The utterly ridiculous premise of SRIV honestly gives you guys a free pass to do any thing you want. Creatively, I don't think it gets any better than that! If that opportunity ever happens I hope ya'll don't get in over your head and have to make an entire sequel to the game just to finish it.... again ;P

I still buy all the dlc, but I would utterly and completely pay more for it all at once, and with more thought put into it.

I don't want a suit, I want pieces so I can make a suit myself, I don't want a non customisable car, I want features I can put into cars to create combinations and different types, release presets for those who are lazy, but then allow them to edit the bits and pieces. I don't want a mission pack showing what could have been in the game, I want expanded story and things that are actually in the game, not to mention, cutscenes that don't deform my female character and make me go "Shes Smart! She wouldn't say that!"

I would love extended work with npcs interactions and romance options, I would love to have more in the open world and activities to be integrated into it, if you get a tank, get tank mayhem, sign up for mind over murder, have more then just timed race missions, hacking minigames and activities where you just shoot the area around you (things blow up! LOL) Have a reality climax friggin editor, have more community integration with steam to allow for easy downloads of others creations. Maybe have new music on stations. Have it all released at once for a higher price instead of releasing bits and pieces, whats the point of new clothing if theres nothing to do while wearing it. Mabye have a matchmaking system where you can send global text messages to play with others. Gahh so much potential!

I'm sorry, and I'm almost definitely asking for to much, but a game is a lot better than you actually want to give them money to support it, it doesn't need the best graphics, but refine textures or allow the sdk for improving textures for those with a good enough pc.

Take your time and don't rush it, don't get something out quicker if its not going to be as good just.... take something from my rant okay?

I'd prefer to see larger clothing packs rather than just a couple of pieces for a few dollars. With the way it is now I don't feel like I'm getting a lot for my money and I still find myself browsing stores wishing there were more items.
