Or, you know, just not buy the dlc that you don't like. Get a grip.

Ehhhh.......I don't think it works like that. The person can just ignore the DLC, but it damages the franchise all the same. It sets a standard for a developers interaction with their fans. It's like saying to not complain if any game is bad, because you have the option to not buy it. A developer must maintain trust at all times with their fans. Bethesda, Valve and Rockstar have built empires on trust. Shitface is proof that the DLC releases are damaging that relationship. I have 'some' respect for Volition, BUT no where near the respect that I have for Rockstar, Bethesda, and Valve. Volition needs to stop, and rebuild that relationship. It's not a matter of right or wrong. There is no logic, or rational that dictates this. Their use of minimal effort with DLC has damaged their fan base. Simular to abandoning SR 1 on the PC despite being semi broken. It's time they put on their big boy pants and BUILD their franchise. Not just grab what they can as the boat sinks.

This argument would hold more weight if the DLC for SRTT was integral in any way. It's all fluff and doesn't proceed the core story at all. None of it is necessary in any way. The only problem I have with it is that it's overpriced, and that's just a personal choice whether or not to purchase it. Being personally offended by it seems kind of silly.

But I'd argue it bleeds into every aspect of their interaction with their fans and damages the future of the franchise. Frankly they come off as untrustworthy and desperate.....which they have been under THQ. I'd also argue that THQ's repeated abuse of DLC, and "EA" like behavior led to their demise. You can catch a lot more flies with honey. Koch must change the way Saints Row is perceived. It has to rebuild that trust. If not fans will look at GTA, Skyrim, Fallout and so on and say, "That's a better investment for me."

I think you are putting way too much stock into the loudly voiced opinions of a small minority of players. Also, it's kind of ridiculous to assume that THQ went bankrupt over their DLC practices. It's been stated by multiple sources (including THQ themselves) that their downfall was solely due to losing over 10 million on the failed U-Draw. They had warehouses full of of them that they couldn't get rid of. Nothing was able to pull them back from that bad decision, including the wild success of SRTT.

I get what you're saying. We shouldn't care about the DLC, only whether the base game is good. I'm just saying customers do care, whether it's fair or not. The U-Draw lost 56 million dollars. Thats a lot of money ,but it shouldn't have destroyed THQ. What destroyed THQ is the complete lack of faith the shareholders had in the company recovering, and they were right to do so. THQ could have focus on supporting their mod community through tool releases and Steam workshop support. They weren't interested. They could have kept SRTT fresh in everyone's mind with GTA style DLC, instead of micro content. So, DLC may not have been the defining nail in the coffin, but it was certainly a lost opportunity among many in the salvation of THQ. Trust is worth it's weight in gold.

a few new tidbits

Getting back to the realm of “reality,” you have an arsenal of ludicrous melee attacks and nearly 30 firearms to experiment with. The demo opened with the player—let me restate, the President of the United States—unleashing Stone Cold Stunners on unsuspecting bystanders.

30 firearms; compare that with SR2, which had 33, and SR3, which had 26. Of course, I dunno if "firearms" is being used as a blanket term for all weapons, including melee. Also I adore the idea of doing the Stone Cold Stunner.

The Zin are the primary enemies of Saints Row 4, though past rival gangs will make appearances throughout the story. The purchasing and takeover mechanics were replaced with a more contextual variant. To combat the Zin in the real world, you must chip away at their network from within your virtual prison. After escaping, you are free to come and go as you please. The other Saints—your cabinet, of course—are trapped in their own virtual worlds, and upon freeing them you can invite the characters into your world.

So first off, past rival gangs as other enemies! Obviously simulations, of course, and as the final game in the "saga", I love the idea of running a gauntlet through old enemies. Second, this seemingly confirms that you'll escape the simulation fairly early on and go back in at your own leisure. Whether that means you can roam real-world Steelport is a whole different question.

There will also a competitive mode called “death tag” in which two players are dropped into the city, assigned unique superpowers, and told to fight to the death. It sounds awesome.

I hope they manage to bump up the amount of players prior to launch at least so you could just fuck around with 3 friends instead of 1, but I don't see that happening.

Great finding, War Raichu!

Steve Jaros, creative director, told me that more types of enemies would challenge you for air superiority. In the most obvious reveal ever, I learned that there will be UFOs in the game. There are also plans for enemies on hover bikes that will harass you and keep you from abusing your powers too much.

Those have to be my favorites. It's too soon to predict it, but I wish that new take-over mechanism would be something like a hybrid of Deckers.die and SR2 activities. With flying units confiremd, mech-suit is surely going to prove itself worth as well :) The thing that saddens me the most now is a lack of dragon. Seriously. Imagine a mission in which aliens trap Boss inside a weird recreation of "Dragons and Tears 4.0 Reloaded" and you have to mount a re-programmed dragon to make it through alive.
