Am I the only one actually looking forward to this?

Its good to see some content coming out, the SDK is promising depending on how much people work on it, how many people hear about it etc. And I like seeing this new expansion to an extent. I do have some things bugging me though, and I'm super concerned about this being rushed.

Deep Silvers track record has been...unsettling to say the least. Beyond the disastrous RTH: Retribution, they also recently released Sacred 3 and Risen 3, both were a mess from what I heard. Sacred 3 is full of sex jokes (I cannot describe how much I hate these in games now) and apparently disappointed all kinds of fans of the series. Risen 3 is just... its just why? I don't get why its the third in a series, and still utterly broken.

There's also the Metro series they bought, and that looks compelling, but it was a purchase, and I have no clue if they helped development other than keep the team afloat to work on the project, which thankfully turned out well. Dead Island is a Deep Silver franchise I've actually played, and its just like... I like it, but the series so far is a complete mess, and for some reason they are making a MOBA, which does not seem to look good so far.

Deep Silver may secretly be good, and might prove they can hold their own by releasing good games (I have no clue about Dead Island 2), but so far, there's a lot of negative stuff associated with them, and I hope that doesn't carry over to Saints Row.

Saints Row 4 was generally, Ill be honest great, or at least the ideas behind it, mostly. I've played A LOT of it, somehow, so they are definitely doing things right, especially with me being excited enough to preorder. But I feel Good Game's review was the most affecting for me (they are an Australian tv show, very popular here), it highlighted what was good, but some parts of it struggled.

A horrible experience for me was the censorship, it was just, oh my god. I luckily (somehow) was given the uncensored version on steam, but the delay, I hated that so much. I HATED THE DELAY, waiting an entire month beyond everyone else to play something I was super excited for was just agony, ruined half of the game experience for me.

I felt really good about how satisfying a lot of it was, despite some nitpicking (freaking Philipe Loren underused again!). But the dlc, oh my god that was just awful, Enter the Dominatrix was just so disappointing, and it ruined my interpretation of the boss (temporarily thank goodness). I do not want to be teased about good things and then be given rubbish, and the rest of the dlc, gosh darn it. Buggy clipping one piece clothes are now my hatred.

OKAY so things haven't been perfect, my hope, was with Saints Row 4 selling so well, they would have a large enough budget to TAKE THEIR TIME making their new project, saints row not saints row I didn't care, as long as my personal preference of very customizable characters was fulfilled. Along with all these other fantasies I had on there being another game.

But then Volition announced they would reveal something at Pax, my first thought was, that was quick...their not rushing the development are they? I heard about it being an expansion, about its setting and characters, how my female boss will still have the exact same cutscene animation and deformity as in the previous game. I like the look of it in general to be honest, but I'm so hesitant, as I want to avoid disappointment.

I'm also not sure this is the kind of expansion I wanted, I wanted the pc version to be shined up, stop the FREAKING CLOTHING CLIPPING, smooth out animations, upgrade all the textures, add the ability to personalize your boss in the story a little, and not have them be an idiot with everyone CLEARLY being smarter.

I was unsure what I wanted with the open world, but here is the thing, all the main missions in saints row are great, except they aren't in the open world itself, that just sucked so much. I don't want these locations to all have so much effort into them, only for them to never be used again, or not be integrated into one location. This could have made Steelport not suck, have interiors, interesting locations, everything everyone wishes it had.

So new open world? Hopefully its better and more detailed, size doesn't matter since navigation is at a different pace, play as Gat or Kinsie? Gat is meh, I hate Kinsie IN RELATION to her conversations with the boss, but playing as her doesn't seem bad. Personally not the characters I would have wanted to be (In particular I like Asha and Shaundi). But not being able to play as the boss just ruins a lot of stuff for me, especially customization. (Oh and everyone still wears the boring space suits, yay nitpicking!). Also, its the worst thing in a game about customization to have all the npcs have better outfits than you. I'm jealous of Shaundi and Ashas outfits, and then with the Christmas dlc, Shaundi got a cool looking bionic makeover, and the boss? A buggy ugly sweater that doesn't fit in at all with how I want my female character to look, fun!

They also announced a revamped SR4 for next gen, and that damn well better be on pc in some shape or form! Saints Row 4 has an art style I like, so just increase the draw distance, make good lighting, make more npcs (oh god PLEASE make new npcs for once! And no not just generic demon ones you use once and never again), improve anti aliasing, improve player characters, and just make their cutscene animation not suck if you play as anyone except the default male!

Its great to see dedication and passion coming from this team and the modding community, but I'm of sick of having to hope for things, and never get them.

I really wished Volition didn't reveal anything for a while, and have long development cycle on their next project. I would rather have one amazing thing in the future rather than average/disappointing things within short development time from each other.

I'm probably going to buy this, I just reaally hope its good.

Wow this was a big rant.

Aww, Gat leave me indifferent as character.
I agree with those that say they would prefer to play as Boss.

I use the british voice too for my Boss.

I am and always have been (since SR1) a Gat fan. It will be good to play as him for once. My ONLY complaint/fear is that they'll decide to turn it into SR5 and that is unacceptable. I almost avoided SR4 because of that particular reason (glad I didn't). I'm hoping that even with the smaller map and lack of quests they can make this as epic as I am hoping... Gat in Hell? If ANYONE can take on the Devil it's Johnny...His adamant refusal to die and his NEED to kill anything that makes him mad makes him perfect for this. Kinzie? I dunno....Not feeling her in this one...But then again Shaundi (I love her too so forgive this remark) has been through a LOT...probably enough. I think the reason Kinzie is getting the nod for this is because she is the least seen Saint in the game usually,it's time to give her some action instead of working behind the scenes. If that's the case I'm all for it...She needs to get out more :D

I was a bit underwhelmed at first, but after V confirmed that you can import your Boss there's no freaking way I won't buy this. The idea of Johnny literally going through hell to rescue the Boss is absolutely precious.

... I couldn't really care less about Kinzie's involvement, though. Haha.

This make more sense indeed.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that Dex was really Satan all along, considering how in the steam description and as well as common knowledge that you get to kill Dex, and you also want to kill Satan as well. And wouldn't Dex have blown up with the rest of the Earth too? Of course though it wouldn't make sense for "Dex" to want to have his daughter marry the person who swore to kill 'em, but at this rate anything could happen.

Seriously, all the complaining here and on YouTube doesn't really scan with me. I mean, while the new city may be about half the size of Steelport, it's still an all-new sandbox, complete with new enemies and weapons. As for complaints that it's too wacky, I'd just like to remind everyone that this is how SR2 was advertised:
Saints Row has always been a mixture of serious and silly, and I see no reason that can't continue here. Plus, the biggest complaint I've seen from long-time fans is that the story with Dex was left hanging, and his voice actor has confirmed he'll be in this. In short, it's priced like an expansion, has an all-new city, and ties off the loose end with Dex. Isn't that exactly what self-professed "old school" fans complained about SRIV not doing? As far as my two cents, I'm fucking pumped. My only real worry is that it'll be a little weird not playing as the Boss, but on the other hand, who doesn't wanna be Johnny Gat?
no my dear your not but i really wish it hads attacks like knives to sriv

I had serious doubts about SR 4, but bought it on release day anyway because of the exciting news that Volition was going to support modding. The doubts have been confirmed, and it's quite obvious now that they weren't serious about the modding part either. It was primarily PR to increase PC sales a bit. I don't blame any individuals, not even those who posted promises on these very forums, because it's obvious that they only relayed what the publisher told them to. The truth is that Deep Silver doesn't care any more for their customers than THQ ever did. All they care about is using popular franchises to extract as much profit out of it with as little effort as possible.

I suppose it's only the next natural step in that direction that they removed another supposedly unimportant feature, which is customization of the player character. Maybe Steam statistics even support that decison, maybe only a minority ever cared about playing with anything but the default character. For me though, that was one of the most amazing and interesting features when I learned of this series, a feature that separated this game from pretty much all others, and one that added more replayability than any other. Even SR 4 at least had that feature, and mods improved upon it yet, so overall I probably had enough fun with it to at least justify the price.

Needless to say, I will not buy a game in this franchise that forces me to play as one or even two fixed protagonists. There are enough games like that out there, and if the gameplay or so-called story of SR 4 are anything to go by, many of those other games do those better too.

I suppose it will take some time yet until an open-world gem like SR 2 will be made again, it currently doesn't seem like it will be coming from Volition anyway. The best I can hope for them is to find a better publisher eventually, or maybe think about the whole kickstarter thing. It just seems like a lot of talent is wasted right now with the unimaginative and uninspired things the company has them doing. A bit like BioWare really, though at least EA currently seems to be in one of those phases once more were they at least pretend to listen to the fans.

Uh, what?

I read this site from time to time, to find out if some new mods have been released, so I do know about that toolset. It's probably not the thread to discuss it further, but we both know that even if it was working properly, modding just the weapons is not even close to enough to create new interest in this game. Steam statistics clearly show that most PC gamers at least have moved on. I know that I have uninstalled it, while SR 2 and SR 3 continue to have their place on my HD. Short of really interesting mods that make the news like some for the GTA series do, nothing will make the players go back to SR 4. Knowing that, of course Deep Silver would not allow any amount of resources to be spent on development of these tools.

Anyway, the matter of the fact is that basically ever since SR 3 more and more features were removed. And the low quality concept that so far was mostly prominent in the DLCs seems to now become the norm for the main games as well. Of course it's cheaper to produce if you only have to record the voice for one player character and don't have to create lots of different clothing. But again, you're removing everything that separated this series from others, and I for one doubt it will pay off. Perhaps you'll at least consider HD remakes for SR 1 and SR 2 including the DLC for PC, that sort of thing seems to be popular these days and it would be cheaper than the production of a new game as well, and for that I would gladly pay the full price.
