Dev Diary #1 debug features

Are we seriously trying to convince Volition to charge us for Mod tools? Fact of the matter is modding makes money, lots of it. They don't need a DLC gate, or pay to play mod tools. Bethesda, and Valve aren't as big as they are because they make the best games. They're big because they make good games and support mod authors to generate value. Mod authors are literally free labor. They make content which increase the value of a game, and ask nothing in return but the tools to do so. End of story. We agree to work for free and they provide some basic tools. Win win.
I'd totally take your money for the debug console.

In all honesty, no it won't be DLC. It's possible that you can make all the things happen that can happen via the cheat DLC with the console, just like you can do the same with hacks and mods. My only hope is that you continue to buy the things we make so that we can continue to make such things. In the mean time, I will continue to try and get things like the console out there, because that is something that we all want. I've calculated a dream for this generation that involves creating tons of content and downloading outfits, vehicles, peds, weapons and even missions and levels. It will take time to get there because the reins have just come off, but you can't stop us. There are a TON of great people at Volition that are simply dying to create things for you and to see what you can create. Keep in mind that we've been just as stifled in the past. If we wanted to release a funny weapon we came up with for free as some random content patch, we simply couldn't due to the twits and the memory limitations that you guys fight as well. We're all in the same boat, it's just that some of us are getting to the point where we are finally able to help row.

Let's all imagine a world in which game developers randomly release updates that add content.....for nothing but shits and giggles......I'm sorry....I have something in my eye......okay, I can do this....I mean, we all have been playing SRTT since it was released....I personally never stopped. I bought DMC, Tomb Raider, Last of Us, and about fifty other games......I played them for a few hours and then got back to Rowing it up....(sometimes Skyrim too) Imagine if the developers stayed with us that long, or at least a few of their interns. Obviously they have other games to develop, but there's bound to be a few single insomniacs at Volition. It wouldn't have a immediate financial payoff to make those greedy, heartless, soul sucking bean counters happy ,but it'd build a consumer/developer community and bring forth a new idealistic era of gaming that would revolutionize gaming (in the real way, not the fake Wii way.)

(I have only one example of this. Burnout Paradise. EA giving away content is like THQ......giving away free content.)

What about Valve? They've released two "DLC" packs for Portal 2 that were actually just sent out as free updates to everyone who owned the game. And there's also Team Fortress 2. A lot of the content there is made by the community now, but Valve has made tons of new free content, even before you could pay to get items without having to trade for them or wait for them to drop. Not to mention the game itself is free now.

If it helps, I had absolutely no interest in the latest 2 DLC packs' contents (no offence, I don't really do outfits/masks, and the guns aren't working for me due to the patch), I merely bought them to support Volition. And as long as I have money to spare I have no problem throwing it at you, because you guys go above and beyond for us.
The least I can do is buy a few cheap $3 DLCs.

Some may disagree with this methodology, arguing it convinces Deep Silver to release 'bad DLC' like the cheat DLC, but in my opinion, so what if they released a cheat DLC? If you don't like the idea, don't buy it. With all the access we are given to the engine....

It's possible that you can make all the things happen that can happen via the cheat DLC with the console, just like you can do the same with hacks and mods.

Though it is better to look at it with my point of view. If you don't like the DLC, buy it anyway, and think of it as helping Volition out.

Fair enough, Valve are definitely gods among men when it comes to community out reach! However when they announced Left 4 Dead I was expecting.....a full game. That's a whole another can of nuts though. Valve proves without a doubt that community out reach pays. It's cute when EA and Activision fight over who's bigger.....the answer is Valve.

Except Steam. I love Valve too but damn it they just won't listen to bug reports for the Steam client, lol.

Or suggestions on how to improve it. You know, like say ditch alphabetical library ordering when it comes to a series, so we could have SR2, SRTT, then SRIV.

... Ok, OCD yeah, not a huge deal but seriously, if anyone had the ability to set up their library manually, not a damn soul would put it in the order it is now lol That's another thing... I own Fallout 3... Except because of how Valve/Bethesda set it up in Steam, I have Fallout 3 GAEM OF TEH YEAR ADDISHUN fecking up my otherwise nice, clean library, not to mention colons on some games while none on others (even if the box art/promo art/official statements don't use that). And the Fallout series is all a mess too with not going in release order.

... I hate being so OCD. :sadpanda:

(But otherwise, there's MUCH worse out there, so I am glad Steam is as user friendly as it is.)

Please keep this on topic.
