I thought they would have found a time machine or something in zinyak's little lair to go back and kill him quicker.

there was a time machine, but all that they did was go back and fuck up history. maybe in a DLC it will be explained that they did just this.

Yes at the end of the game the servant tells the boss Zinyak had a time machine, but the really annoying thing is you don't get to use it to save the homies that were still on earth.

ok, just saw it. either another saints row OR more possibly a future DLC of course.
