SRIV SRIV Steam patch 9/16/13

OK this may sound crazy and probably won't work but try creating a blank file called HsSrv.dll in your base Saints Row IV directory. Windows should try to load that version instead of the proper one. (It will probably give an error that hssrv.dll is not a valid image file but clicking on OK should continue to load the game).

Doesn't work for me either.

I've got the same error when I tried to do some modifications to caracter.xtbl. Perhaps there's an incompatibility with some mods...

Please don't post the game's encrypted exe to the forum. Any posts referencing this have been removed.

Even without mods I am still getting this error, they don't come much more broken than this when the product literally doesn't work, I am just about at the point where I want to wash my hands of the game and be done with it, talk about killing a great game.

I'm not trying to pass the buck here, but something is up deep down when creating the window. This is just a call to CreateWindowExW that spirals down and eventually explodes for unknown reasons down in HsSrv.dll. This code didn't change. We didn't do anything differently about creating the OS window, but something has obviously changed somewhere. I'm not sure what, but it seems something is different somewhere on some machines. I'd love to help get to the bottom of it, but just posting a "me too, I'm so mad I'm going to go punch a goat into outer space and demand a refund for windows since my computer crashes" doesn't really help anyone make progress. If you have a crash issue, please create a thread in the bug report forum and attach a dump file so that I can see if you actually have the same crash or if it is somewhere else. You can find the mdmp file in your main game folder. While you're there, please add information about your machine like the sticky threads request so that we can see if there is a specific MB or chipset or something that has this issue.

Just a question if that's ok, this new update... It's automatically logging crashes for you guys so you can see them? Or do I have to do something?
I just started a new game and it crashes when Kinzie's ship is meant to appear as she shouts "STAY DOWN" and all the aliens are meant to get shot.

At least now it says that Saints Row IV stopped working and not Inauguration Station:rolleyes:

It automagically logs the crashes so we can see them and debug them. The way it works though, it will only get dumps for crashes that occur so often and it's all mushed up into statistical stuff. We don't see anything specific about your machine, just that a crash happened here x times with a few dumps per crash. Your dumps might not even get uploaded if we have enough from other players.

This anonymous and distant reporting is why I'm willing to help people individually with crashes they have in the bug reprort forum. I can't tell you that your crash will be fixed in patch x on date y, but I can tell you what went wrong. Maybe something external to the game can be changed that will help or fix it. Or maybe we can just enjoy the fact that the bug is known and fixed internally and will eventually make it out into the wild.

Nice reply , Saints Row IV fails to start, so crashing would be an improvement! If Windows failed to start after installing or receiving an update for it then yeah, I'd be "demanding" a refund.

I am currently redownloading the game as a last resort, I will post whatever crash log is made after attempting to run the game if the problem ensues.

I don't know if such information can be helpful - especially when the game doesn't start at all - but it my case (game crashing after playing initial logos) switching game to windowed mode by pressing Alt + Enter helped. I can't switch back to fullscreen without a crash, but at least I can play the game that way. I'll try to upload crash logs as well.
