DLC Opinions?

I'm now actually very curious. Is it declared as a separate DLC vehicle... or is it actually a separate customization scheme for existing vehicles, with DLC flag to true?
(The reason is the former is expected.. but the latter implies a LOT more about how far the game can be pushed)

Still, I'd laugh. I'm kinda wondering though. It's against regulations to do DLC via mods (well, that people without the DLC can use).. but does that then mean we have to remove any customization features for those vehicles since we could add colour and a few decals to the list? I mean, not duplicating DLC is one thing, but when the DLC starts duplicating game features we've extended scope of via modding.. what happens? What happens if they come up with a DLC that gives customized helicopters? Does that vanish from the mods list?

I mean, I understand the no-piracy rule, but when they start selling the game itself, again, as a DLC.. how far do you go to avoid duplicating it?

The Spec Ops vehicles are not just new variants, from the engine's point of view. That's why it's possible to make the Saints N-Forcer fire a VTOL laser without STAG's cars all getting the same upgrade.

The mission packs I enjoyed. However, everything that is on disc (while I like a few of them) should've been in the game to begin with. Or at the very least, everything should've been made available to us from launch rather than dragging this out. I really don't understand the logic behind holding out on us when the DLC is on the disc. Makes sense when the content is still being fine-tuned, of course.

In fact, they should've made the Season Pass apply to the on-disc stuff instead of the mission packs. After all, I would imagine people would be more likely to buy the mission packs anyway, so it seemed kinda pointless to Season Pass them by throwing in the Nyte Blade pack for free when they could've roped in more buyers of stupid stuff like the Special Ops and Zimos packs by promising early access to good stuff like the Shark, Money Shot, and Explosive Combat packs

Can I have a longer speech?

1) Genkibowl - in the long run, it turned out best to me. When this thing came out I was like "It's fun! It's kinda more of the same, but still fun and time-worth... WHAT? Only four activities?". However, when I started a new campaign and Genkibowl stuff became a part of other Steelport's activities, they really added up to the experience and fun!
2) Gangstas in Space - I was waiting for it like a kid for Christmas. I'm a fan of cheesy B-class movies so this DLC really got me in: theme was awesome, missions were great, Jenny became one of my fav characters and reward vehicles really help in campaigns. There's only one letdown: lack of laser weapons in freeroam. I secretly hope that modders will finally find a way to put them in.
3) Troubles with the Clones - Didn't like it. I haven't played SR2 so maybe I haven't caught all the references, but that one was a real letdown. If not the super powers part...
4) Nyte Blayde, Z Pack - Nyte Blayde turned out pretty flat (no surprise it became a part of Season Pass), but Z Suit still shines on my character! Now only if developers managed to throw the auto-tuning voice for player in and replace lvl 2 baseball bat with Zimos' microphone...
5) Funtime pack and Shark Attack - that's some hilarious stuff. Perfect for freeplay madness!
6) Moneyshot - I hesitated for quite a time before I clicked on "buy". First, I got Scythe, so Ultor Interceptor wasn't needed much. Second, I thought that that catsuit could be easily replaced by matching other clothing together. Third, TOGO-13 looked fancy (you can't go wrong with rifles oversizing your character) but didn't seem to introduce anything new. Finally I bought it and don't regret that. Ultor Interceptor gathers dust, TOGO-13 and catsuit not so much.

My guess is that some THQ manager thinks that holding out on small DLC releases will make their fans want it more, but this really just has the opposite effect as the game get older. Fewer and fewer people care, and Volition ends up looking like a bunch of incompetent dicks.
personally, I want the rest of it to come out, but not because I actually want the content. It's because I want some actual new stuff to come out, like Witches and Weiners, stuff that wasn't leaked several months before the game's release and has constantly been on the radar because it's locked content.

You know... I'm starting to wonder how bad creating a new soundpack really would be. It's probably impossible, but, if not, well..
While music packs would be the obvious.. it could be possible to make something like an autotune voice... it's jut a metric crapton of stuff to add and go over.

As for the little DLCs I think it's a matter of them just wanting to take time and work over it, as much as THQ telling Volition "Another DLC, NOW! Profits aren't what we're hoping for!" and Volition goes "aww hell... uhm, add a new animation set, and ship it!" so they're doing DLC spam to try to keep profits up. It's a severely short-term strategy but they aren't exactly doing long-term design here. DLC spam like this is a method used to keep wringing money out of a liscence that is selling decently but the company wants/needs more money than it makes. It saves them making a new game because that takes time and money.. and while you CAN make good expansin pack things that add a lot to the game, they also take time and money. So add a few gimmicks and call it a day. Free money! In turn though it pisses off the fanbase and alienates them, so as I said it's a short-term strategy at best.

if they were to release a "Stilwater Radio" pack with all (or at least, a good chunk of) music from SR2, they could have all of my money.

I just miss all of the music from SR2's The Mix, especially Take on Me

Chew on this for a minute... We have the technology and the tools. Why not create an autotune voice ourselves to replace one of the existing ones? There are only about 2000 files we would have to create/replace (which includes DLC samples.) I'll bet we could knock it out in a month if we found a talented voice.

(though my actual dream is to create a really thick Chinese accent voice pack like Dr Fu Manchu.)

Well, that would have been A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I always wanted to do this kind of crazy stuff... Such a pity that my English and voice sound so lame.

Also, IdolNinja, by saying "we have the technology and the tools" you had in mind "tools for autotune voice" or just general recording stuff?
